Reisbeck<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:clamp(14.642px, 0.915rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.657), 22px);\"><a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/33864ba75bcc481bbae5643ba833ba43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>18th Century Scotland, as observed by Daniel Defoe<\/em><\/a> focuses solely on \u201cThat Part of Great Britain Called Scotland,\u201d the first letter in Defoe&#8217;s fourth volume of <em>A Tour of Thro\u2019 the Whole Island of Great Britain<\/em>, and, more specifically on changes to the ecology and to the physical and built landscape of Scotland. This is done by highlighting both select passages and the finer details that Defoe labored to record regarding fisheries (including pearls) and rivers. The backbone of this project is a dataset which organizes the information provided in Defoe\u2019s letter; it is available to download for the use of other scholars (or any one interested). It is with the dataset that the visualizations on this page were created.
