Khedival American Soldiers is a comprehensive digital collection dedicated to preserving the works of 48 American Civil War veterans who served in the Egyptian Army between 1869 and 1879. These individuals ranged from explorers to engineers, from sixty-year-old veterans to twenty-year-old captains, and included both Union and Confederate affiliates. The website captures their fascinating lives and their experiences in Egypt.
To demonstrate how the CollectionBuilder-based site can serve as a database for other digital projects, data extracted from it were used in a series of network analyses created with Gephi. These visualizations illustrate how frequently the soldiers referenced one another in their writings.
